Convert JPG to PNG when an upload form requires it
Some upload forms ask for PNG even when your file starts as a JPG. The conversion is simple, but the file can get larger.
PNG will not restore lost detail
JPG is lossy, so converting to PNG does not bring back compression detail. It only saves the current pixels into a PNG container.
Expect a larger file
Photos often become bigger as PNG. If the upload also has a file-size limit, resize or compress the image after conversion.
Use it for compatibility
JPG to PNG is best when a tool, form or workflow requires PNG. For website delivery, a photo may still be better as JPG or WebP.
